Description

"Racial troubles have been rampant since the Fourth of July amongst boys who are in the reforestation camps in Pennsylvania. When a contingent of Pittsburgh boys left here on the night of the national holiday the two cars on the rear of the train were reserved Jim Crow for the colored lads and before the train had gone very far it was necessary to call the state police at Greensburg to quell a disturbance which started when some of the ofays came into the colored section. Two white boys had to be taken to the hospital to have their injuries dressed according to reports most of the windows in the colored cars were smashed. The police boarded the trains in Greensburg, but made no arrests, but they did accompany the train to its destination in Clinton County. Later in the week information came in that the future trains on the Pennsylvania railroad carrying boys on vacations will be policed to see to it that no further trouble is experienced as was done on the fourth. At DuBois, two colored boys are in jail and the third is in the hospital as the result of the gun battle. All of the participants of the battle hail from Philadelphia. William Frazier 19, was shot, and James C. Edwards, 20, and Robert Chatham, 20, are accused of the shooting."
