"William J. Bryan and Mrs. Bryan arrived in London from Norway late Tuesday afternoon.
Wednesday Mr. Bryan was the central figure at the annual independence day dinner of the American Society dinner of the American Society at the Hotel Cecil. Nearly 500 members and guests surrounded the society’s board, and cheered patriotic sentiments with the peculiar zest born of exile. Ambassador Whitelaw Reid and Mr. Bryan engaged in some sharp but good-humored raillery and banter over political differences, the the crowd evincing its enjoyment of the sport with cheers and shouts of laughter."
