Hon J W Law of Liberty county was in the city a couple of days this week on business.
Mrs Alice Collins left last week for Stockton, Ga., where she will teach during the summer.
Miss Lizzie G Fleming left on Wednesday for Midway, Sc, to spend a few days with relatives.
A large crowd left on Wednesday afternoon for Charleston and Columbia to spend the fourth of July. The glorious fourth of July was duly observed on Thursday. Many of the business houses were closed. The Bibb County Blues of Macon will be in the city on the 18th inst., as the guests of the Colquitt Blues. Miss Ethel Fairchild who has been attending school in the city left on Sunday for her home at Bainbridge, Ga. Don’t forget the trip around the harbor on Monday by the First Congregational church. It will be a pleasant one indeed. Misses Georgia Mims, Lula Mims, and Rosa Paramore of Florida are the guests of their cousin Mr and Mrs Lucius Williams.
Logan’s city market, sausages of all kinds. Mrs Dianah Fabain and Miss Sarah Dudley left on the Kansas City on Sunday last for New York, where they will spend the summer. Paul Green was stabbed over the heart on Wednesday night by S W Mack, on Liberty and Wheaton streets. The cause of it was trivial. An able sermon on “American Citizenship” will be preached tomorrow night at St Stephnes church by Rev Richard Bright. The public is invited to attend.
The Savannah Hussars will celebrate its twenty-third anniversary by a grand picnic at Montgomery on Monday Aug 6th. Trains leave as usual. Fare 35 and 25 cents.
Mrs Adrienee E McNeil Herndon of Atlanta was in the city Tuesday, and left the same day for New York on her way to Boston where she will attend the school of expression and elocution.
Mr John J Bell. Jr. and old Savannahian arrived home last week from New York. Mr Bell has improved wonderfully since his last visit home. His many friends are pleased to greet him.
Ex Detective John Kavanaugh, while suffering from mental depression, took a large dose of laudanum with suicidal intent. He was successfully pumped out and is now about alright again.
Tomorrow night holy communion will be served and reception of members had at the First Congregational church. On account of the absence of Rev Maxwell, the Rev Mr J H H Sengstacke will officiate. Mrs Dr J. J.j Durham and master Johnnie left on the 3rd for. Edgefield, SC, where she will spend a few days with her mother and then go north. She expects to visit Washington, New York and Boston before returning. Fresh Honeycomb Tripe, Pigs feet and Balogna Sausages, at Logans’s."
