"Boy scout Troop 101 of the first Baptists church, Roanoke, will be the fourth of July guests of Troop 77 here, it was announced this week. The troop, which is connected with Roanoke council No. 600, will leave Roanoke at midnight on July 3 by way of the Norfolk and Western Railroad, and arrive in Norfolk early the next morning. According to J. Luvelle Taylor and James T. Williams, Jr., scoutmaster and assistant scoutmaster respectively, the troop may visit the Norfolk District’s camp site [sic] and participate in activities there. Plans for boating, swimming, and fishing are also being arranged, it was stated. Officers of the Roanoke colored district committee are: Dr, E. R. Dudley, district chairman; Prof. Theron Williams, vice chairman; L. A. Lee, district commissioner; J. Henry Claytor, chairman district court of honor: William Mckinley Rice, secretary district committee; G. Macklin, members of district [sic] committee. Troop representatives on district committee: L. A. Lee, K. Allen, C. R. Meadows, all of Roanoke; Dr. W. R. Brown, Salem, Va.; Dr. L. A. Vickers, Martinsville, Va."
