Title

J.P.H. Wentworth and the Examiner p.2

Description

"This Veracious Copperhead sheet says “that Mr. Wentworth opposed assigning the colored people a place in the Fourth of July procession.” We don’t believe a word of it. Mr. Wentworth is too well known, and his political principles too well authenticated for him to abandon those principles now. This gentleman was a Republican when it was dangerous to be one, and his political creed is, and ever has been, that every American citizen, black or white, at the age of 21 should enjoy the elective franchise as his birthright. After the charge was denied, the Examiner said they were prepared to prove it, and when called upon for their proof made the flimsy excuse that somebody “understood so.” The base coin is nailed to the counter, and the Examiner stands convicted as a slanderer."
