Description

"The fourth of July has come and gone. For most of us in Bel Aire, it was a regular old fashioned day without the danger of fireworks. The small fry were as much in in the fun as the adults. Almost every family worked their barbecue pits full blast. Almost every type of meat was cooked out of doors. For those who ran out or did not feel like cooking, the Markham Manor Civic organization sold barbecue dinners at its annual barbecue.
The Little Leaguers played at the picnic grounds to a large crowd. We were happy to see some of the boys from Bel Aire in the games. I did not get their names. Will have them next week.
We were very happy and busy in my home for the day too, our son Robert, brought his family, Clara and Chappy plus Carol, Joyce and Robbin (three of our grandchildren) all the way from Toledo. Then to make the day complete George (Buddy) our oldest came with his family--Pansy, David and Marlene, Clifford and Edith Burke and Curry and Alene Cannon, dear friends, helped to make this perfect day something to cherish.
You are reminded again to come out on July 28 for the Bel Aire Park Civic Association’s big day. After the tea, most of the families are going to have an open house.
Clemantine Irions tells me that the 14 women who volunteered to take the school census were not paid for their work. The money that would have been paid out for this census was applied instead to the library and to the school budget. The library needed only $100 of the $300. The rest is there for use in the schools.
We all send get well wishes to Mrs. Hudson who is in the county hospital, Room 1212D. It would be best to contact the family to find out if visitors are allowed.
Minnie B. Handy is also getting over a case of the flu.
The Socialites served a special dinner to their husbands Saturday night at the home of Ruby Graves. Hope we are forgiven for working the men so hard at our last affair."
