Ali vows, p. 10

Description

"Some grudges die hard, as in the case of Heavyweight Boxing Champ Muhammad Ali.
He’s quitting- for the umpteenth time, according to the sports writers who’ve been burned on scoops about his retirement- but there’s one guy he says hes [sic] still got to beat.
“I’m coming back for one man,” Ali said after a one - round exhibition bout during Chicago’s Fourth of July festivities. “I’ve got to get him before I quit boxing.”
Get Whom? Ken Norton? Joe Frazier? Nope. Ken Green, who whupped Ali for the Chicago Golden Gloves in 1958 - back when Ali was a mere Cassius Clay.
Ali joined Chicago dignitaries in the city’s Independence Day parade down Michigan Avenue and then sparred a round with Floyd “Jumbo” Cummings, who recently was released from the Stateville Correctional Center.
But before the match he repeated his intention to retire from the ring.
“Im [sic] the first black to get out on top,” he said. (UPI)"
