"The ‘Glorious Fourth’ dawned bright and fair accompanied by family gatherings; picnics; baseball games; car wrecks etc. Folk in general enjoyed they day; all over the state out-of-state license plates showed that folk had come South for the Fourth.

Fourth of July celebrations now are a farcry [sic] from the good old pit-barbecue picnic days when folk from over the countryside gathered at a shady spot and fried fish; drank pop; ate ice cream played various games and ended the day with a display of fireworks.

Notes and pictures from out Los Angeles, California way denote the splendor of the Stovall-Brooks wedding. Dr. Yolande Stovall and Dr. Theodore Roosevelt Brooks are now hooneymooning [sic], upon return they will be at home in L.A. while Theodore internes [sic] at L.A. County hospital. The young doctors met at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Back from a lovely trip which included Dayton, Ohio and Washington, D.C. is Mrs. Jessie Brooks Lott of Brookhaven. In the Capital City she joined her sister and brother-in-law Dr. and Mrs. Henry Tolbert of Chicago for a stay at the Washington Statler Hotel. The trio attended the graduation of their nephew Dr. Theodore Brooks from Howard University.

Over Natchez way dance lovers enjoyed themselves the night of June 28, in one of the season’s smartest affairs. All for the sake of sweet charity.

Pharmacist John Brown of Famcee University spent the Fourth in Greenwood, Miss., with wife Eva, who will join him at the famed Florida Institution later.

It’s a boy for Dean and Mrs. Herbert Wilson of Alcorn A. & M. College, their firstborn. Over the weekend Dean Wilson journeyed to New Orleans to make the acquaintance of his son, Mrs. Wilson awaited her date with sir stork in New Orleans at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Victorianne.

The second session of summer school opened at Jackson College July 4; out Alcorn College way things got under way for the second session July 11, the enrollment again passed previous marks. Folk are attending school all over the Magnolia state, reports from all colleges indicate record breaking attendance. Other Mississippians are in school all the way from the great lakes to the Pacific Ocean."
