"One person was shot and two stabbed during fourth of July holiday celebrations. Mrs. Elizabeth King, 26, of 3140 S, Wabash ave., was shot in the right thigh by a stray bullet as she walked near 35th and Wabash ave., Wednesday night. She was taken to Mercy hospital where her condition is fair. Hollis Howard and Miss Ida Gilbert were both victims of stab wounds Wednesday night while engaged in a quarrel with their mates. Howard, 48, of 6121 S. Ellis ave., told police that his wife, Elise, 54, who is in custody, took a paring knife from a table a n d stabbed him in the chest. He was taken to Woodlawn hospital in serious condition. Meanwhile, police are searching for Willie John, 40, for the alleged stabbing of his girl friend, Miss Gilbert, 45, who is in serious condition at Woodlawn hospital. According to police, John stabbed Miss Gilbert in her home at 6817 S. Calumet ave., after the two argued."
