"To emphasize strongly a safety message for the Fourth of July, Oliver Butler, manager of Walgreens at Lake Meadows, dons an Uncle Sam suit (whiskers and all) and parades with his safety sign as Norman Ward of Ward-Mitchell, Louis Eason, assistant manager of Firestone, and F. M. Settles, manager of Woolworth’s indicate that they are fully in accord with the spirit of a safe and sound Fourth. The association of merchants at Lake Meadows offers its own 10-point program: 1. Be courteous to others who are picnicking. 2. Keep a constant watch on children. 3. If picnicking, refrigerate foods that may spoit easily. 4. Have your car checked by experts before traveling on the highway. 5 Do not be carless with barbeque fluids or other inflammables. 6. Put water on all fires after your picnic. 7. Drive carefully within the speed limits. 8. Do not use illegal fireworks. 9. Do not overcrowd your automobile. And 10. Be sure you can control your car at all times."
