"Agnew: No takeover talk

Washington (UPI) Vice President Spiro T. Agnew says he has no agreement with President Nixon on the question of his assuming the presidential duties should Nixon be disabled, and that the two have never discussed it.

Agnew was asked about the subject by reporters after he spent about 50 minutes with Nixon at Bethesda Naval Hospital.

Wallace Welcomes Liberals

Montgomery, Ala. (UPI)- Gov. George Wallace, in his first news conference since sharing the platform with Sen. Edward M. Kennedy on the Fourth of July, said the “liberals have finally discovered the South.”

The Governor said he was “particularly proud” that national politicians were visiting Alabama. Kennedy’s speech “sounded like part of it was written in Alabama,” Wallace said. About 200 letter writers criticized Kennedy’s appearance, Wallace said.

Secret Service Stores Tapes

Washington (UPI)- A Secret Service spokesman says his agency serves as the repository for President Nixon’s tape recorded conversations and that the tapes are physically kept in the White House.

the spokesman would not comment, however, when asked if a record of the tapes was maintained, if any had been withdrawn, or if any of them had been destroyed.

The White House said in the system of recording Nixon’s conversations was started in 1971.

Nations negotiate death payoffs

Dar Es Sallaam (NBNS)- Negotiations at the ministerial level between Tanzania and Uganda began on the amount of compensation to be paid by Uganda to 24 Tanzanians murdered in Uganda over the last two years

Seven of those were killed were students arrested in Kampala. Seventeen others arrested have not been seen since their arrests.

The talks are a sequel to an agreement signed at the O.A.U. meeting in Ethiopia."
