"The Fourth of July celebration started at Mckinley Park. Mr. Burel N. Nealy, [ill] the social and recreational life of the Community. There was plenty to eat and drink.
The swimming events, under the direction of Young Van Leu was a credit to the Married and single men was a great even. This atan’ted a great throng.
The outstanding event was the Tennis Tournament. There was 31 enteries [sic] in the doubles and ten in the singles. The finals in the doubles was between Sims and Price and, Dr. Bell and Mr. G.L. West. The contest was won by [ill].
The singles were fought out between Dr. Sims and West. This was a battle to the finish. Dr. Sims won two of the three sets.
This is only a forerunner of the Great Labor Day Celebration."
