“FETED ON BIRTHDAY! Master Lonnie Mayfield Jr. 1122 College was feted with his seventh birthday anniversary party on Saturday afternoon, July 4, with thirty five guests present. An enjoyable evening was had by all, with ice cream, cake, and sunivers served by the host.
Mrs. Mary Reames has returned from St. Louis as guest if her sister-in-law and reports a very pleasant visit.
NASHVILLE FACULTY MEMBER VISIT HERE: Miss Iola B. Smith teacher in the public schools of Nashville has just completed a successful summer session at State College and is here visiting her cousins, Mr. and Mrs. DeWitt Davis. After a week’s stay she will leave for Hot Springs to be guest of her Brerend Sister, Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Smith. Many entertainments are being planned for her.
RETURN FROM FORT SMITH: Prominent member of Ward’s Chapel AME Church, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Vaughns have returned from Fort Smith after seven months stay. At press time, Mrs. Vaughn is slightly ill
PRESS VISITORS: Here on business this week is Mr. Charles H. Bynum field secretary of the commission of Interracial cooperation, with headquarters at Atlanta, Ga., residing at 5116 Terry Ave, Dallas, Texas. He visited the State PRESS office on Tuesday.
Inspecting the STATE PRESS plant on Tuesday was also Mr. Eugene Frazier of Chicago, who is first vice president of the United Transport Service Employees of America, affiliated with the Congress of Industrial Organizations.
Little Mary Louise Smith is visiting her father, Leon Smith in Kansas City. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Jones of 716 Locust Street, North Little Rock.
Mr. Middie Davis of Forrest City is visiting her sister, Mrs. P. L. Jones of North Little Rock.
A unique way of celebrating the Fourth of July during war times was set by John Ross Davis, of North Little Rock, who collected scrap rubber during the day.
