Bud Billiken Urges Safe and Sane July 4th: Ask’ Kiddies Not to Play with Firearms, p. 16

Description

"No doubt every one of you know that Saturday is July 4 (Independence day). Throughout the entire country children and grown-ups will be celebrating this national holiday. In all probability Billikens will come in for their share of good time, but in doing so Bud is especially anxious that you be careful so as to prevent casualties.
Shooting fireworks is very dangerous. Although done in fun, many children take it to the extreme, playing pranks on their playmates. Don’t do that, is Bud’s advice to you.
Let’s make the Fourth safe and sane for all by doing unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Take a good look at the stories below and see what happened to two Boston kiddies.
BURNED ON FACE
Charles Pina, 5, of 38 Village St. received painful cuts and burns on the face and hands when a firecracker exploded. Little Charles had place the cracker under a tine can. Following the explosion the flying fragments of the can cut a piece out of his chin. He was taken to the Boston City hospital for treatment.
BURNED WITH FIRECRACKER
BOSTON, July 3.- While celebrating Bunker Hill day with fireworks, John Long, 11, of Newcomb St. received painful bruises about the face and hands when a giant firecracker exploded in his hand. He was taken to the Boston City hospital for treatment."
