Description

"ST. LOUIS, July 10.- Dr. William M. Wright, X-ray expert of the staff of City hospital No. 2, was drowned July 4 at 7 p.m. in South river, near Palmyra, Mo., where he had gone for an Independence day outing.
He was one of the party of six St. Louisians [sic] that had gone swimming. Dr. Wright was some distance from his associates when he was suddenly attacked with cramps, according to Mrs. George Saunders, the doctor’s mother-in-law, who lives at Palmyra. She said the doctor cried for help when sinking and was rescued [ill.] two white men who were swimming two blocks away from the scene. Wright died before medical attention could be given him.
He was 42 years old and a native of Locust, La. After graduating from Alcorn college, Alcorn, Miss., in 1911, he entered Meharry Medical college of Nashville, Tenn., and received his degree in medicine with the class of 1915. He came to St. Louis seven years ago from Fayette, Mo., where he was engaged in the practice of his profession. His office here was located at 219 N. Jefferson Ave. In addition to his duties as an X-ray specialist at the city institution, he was said to have had a lucrative practice in the city.
Dr. Wright’s wife, Mrs. Lunie Cameron Wright, died three years ago. Besides his five children, two boys and three girls, the eldest being 13 years old, the doctor is survived by his mother, Mrs. Annie Wright of El Paso, Tex.: Rev. Edward Wright, father, Alcorn, Miss., and three brothers and three sisters.
Mr. and Mrs. John Fola and Miss Virginia Saunders, 4221 W. Belle Place and S. Kelley were in the party."
