"HOLLYWOOD. Calif., July 19- Marring [sic] an otherwise pleasant holiday and causing great anxiety among her many friends and movie fans. Miss Libby Taylor, famous screen highlight was severely injured in a car crash on the Fourth of July.
Deep gashes on her breast, cuts and bruises on her knees and a dislocated shoulder were the worst of her superficial wounds, with possibility of internal injuries.
Her brother-in-law, Gerald Taylor, a vacation guest in her home, was also badly hurt when the impact of the car threw him through the windshield. Five of his teeth were knocked out and he suffered numerous painful cuts.
Portland Taylor, her dapper young artist-husband, escaped with minor injuries.
Freak Accident
The crash occurred in one of those unusual instances that unusual instances that come so unexpectedly as to be entirely unavoidable. While returning from the Ben Bowie Post outing at Val Verde, the car, moving along at an ordinary rate of speed, suddenly struck a shoulder of soft dirt. The brakes stuck, hurling the passengers towards the front with terrific force. As they were near Newhall, Calif., at the time the injured were hurried there where they received first aid at the Emergency hospital.
Miss Taylor is recovering under the care of her charming sister-in-law. Marjorie Taylor, a prominent young socialite, who is also a guest in her home at 1249 ½ North Virgil Avenue, and hopes to be able to be about and back to her picture work in a few days.
The usual good luck of the actress was broken by the crash as she had just signed a contract for an important part in the Mascot production, “Harmony Lane,” a big new musical. She will not recover in time to fill her role in it now.
Miss Taylor, a former stage favorite, sprang into the national limelight when she first came to Hollywood through the glamorous Mae West sending for her to be her personal maid. Meanwhile she worked in Mae’s pictures, attracting attention at once from other studios.
Since then she has played featured parts in a number of others, recently finishing “Every Night At Eight,” with George Raft, Fay Wray and Carole Lombard. She also played a part in the Walter Wagner production, “Shanghai.”"
