Fourth of July p.3

Description

"The Grand Marshal is making exertions to have a fine celebration on 4th proximo, in which he is ably assisted by the President, Judge Palmer and the Standing Committees. The Board of Supervisors have appropriated $3,000 towards the expenses of the celebration ; on condition that there shall be no fireworks. In arranging the procession we hope the Grand Marshal will not have any “Colored Division.” Let our societies file in with similar organizations, and others find places where they can.
The Committee on Literary Exercises have selected Hon. Leonidas E. Pratt as Orator of the Day, Rev. Mr. Platt as Chaplain, and James F. Bowmad as Poet. The Bohemian Choral Club will sing several patriotic airs. The Committee on Invitations have invited the Military Companies and citizens of Oakland to participate in the celebration. We have also received an invitation, which we have accepted."
