WAR WON’T CONTINUE LONG, SOLDIER, IN AFRICA, SAYS, p.19

Description

"RICHMOND -- Pfc. Edward McGriff, of Winnsboro, S.C., who is serving in North Africa in the army, thinks that it won’t be long before American soldiers will be returning home after winning the war. Pfc. McGriff, in his first letter to his aunt, Miss Beatrice Brown, of 3858 Brook Road, Richmond, writes cheerfully and hopefully. Here is what he says:
Dear Bea;
How are you today? Fine I hope, as this leaves me O.K. so far. I know you have said everything about me for taking so long to write you, but, Bea, you know how it is when a fellow is always on the go. But don’t think too hard of me because it won’t be like that anymore. Bea, what are you doing for yourself these days? Today is the Fourth of July. I know you are having a nice time.
FRIEND TO BE SURPRISED
Listen, do you hear from Henry often; hope so. I wrote him the other day. I know he is going to be surprised to know that I am in North Africa, but I am doing fine. Also, I hear from Marie often. She is doing fine also, and George was turned down from the army. I wonder what his trouble was? I hear from home once in a while. They are doing fine course I know how busy they are now working. Every time I get a letter from them they want to see me, but it won’t be long as it has been before I will get to see them all. Victory is not far away nope.
MISSES U.S.A.
I am just trusting in the Lord for this day to come and we will all get to see our people again. I miss the good old U.S.A. but the day I left there we had a job in front of us to do. The sea was rough, but we made it safe to the other shore and it was Africa. Listen, do you hear or see old Haskeo? What is he doing for himself. I wrote him a letter and you know he has not answered it as yet. If you see him tell him I’m still looking for an answer from him. Take it easy, for this time I guess I will close. All my regards and write soon.
From
E.O."
