"Hy Snoden, James Woodruff, and Mrs. Turner are sick. Rev. S. H. Hazzard held his third-quarterly conference and meeting Saturday and Sunday at the A. M. E. Zion church. Mrs. Mose Starling left Friday night to Kentucky on a vacation. Fred Dula spent the weekend with his grandfather, Gordon Pennington. The Melody Harpers sang at the Zion church Sunday afternoon.
Masters William and Willie Meadows left on their vacation in Kentucky last Thursday. Mrs. Edna Coffin of Lynch KY. is visiting her mother, Mrs. Viola Evans. John Simpson and wife were over from Lynch, KY., visiting Mrs. Fellicie Washington. James Gaither and A. B. Durham were visitors at the Zion church Sunday morning. Ernest Gordon is visiting his sister, Mrs. Nathanial Gibson. Good Black of Lynch was in town Sunday. Miss Phillips of Appalachia, VA.,
and Dr. N. J. Anderson and friends were in town on the Fourth of July. Miss Ella Bovin of Appalachia, VA., visited Mrs. Mose. The Stewardess board of the Zion church gave an entertainment at the hall. Mrs. Andrew Vinson and sister, Polly: Mrs. Nathaniel Gibeon, Bartha Patterson, C. A. Loller, Josie Moss, Leroy Giles, Vivian Holiday, Mrs. Thomas Williams, Edwin Giles, Will Kelley, Theo Loller, C. A. Loller jr., Charles Scruggs, Miss May Dunham, and several others accompanied the ball club to Lynch, KY., on the Fourth of July.
Bluefield W. Va. Hunter Johnson of Bluefield, Curtis Price of Washington, D. C., and misses Froe and Leftwich of Bluefield were guests of misses Eunice Johnson and Myrtle Matney Sunday. The Fourth of July celebration sponsored by the M. E. church was well attended and represented at the ball park all day.
Montgomery W. VA. Prof C. W. Drishal [sic], teacher in the Simmons high school, died Friday. Funeral ceremonies were held July 1 in First Baptist church. Rev. Thomas, pastor of M. E. church, officiated, assisted by Revs. J. K. Smith, J. J. Turner, Dr. C. Dean, P. H. Sanders and Wilderly. Rev J. K. Smith’s seventh anniversary as pastor of his church was observed Sunday. Rev. J. J. Turner preached Sunday. The Rev. Watkins preached Sunday afternoon. Rev. P. A. Sanders preached Monday night. Mrs. Nannie Childress is still very sick. Mrs. J. J. Turner has been called to Lewisburg to the bedside of her sister, miss Callie Jackson. Mrs. Bell Clayhorn’s sister, Gladis, and brothers and their wives of Washington, D.C. are here.
Litwar W. VA. Sunday was a great day at the Beulah Baptist church. Rev. Carwell of Jaeger. W. Va. preached. Rev. Staples preached the evening sermon. The Choir of Faraday. W. VA. Rendered its service. Mrs. Luig Mckinney and family motored to Gary, W. VA., Wednesday to attend the funeral of a relative. W. Jones found a very curious hen egg last month on which was a head resembling that of Jesus Christ. Mrs. Vandella Scott is sick, also miss Edith Mae Spawling. George Grey motored to Red Jacket Wednesday to visit his father and sisters. Miss Lexie Horton of Bluefield. W. VA. spent the Fourth here with relatives."
