A Gala Fourth for State Hospital p. 5

"Patriotic colors with flags set the back ground for a gala 4th of July party for approximately 400 patients at the State hospital held on the spacious grounds. Awards were presented to the winners of the “Hog Callding”, and “Ball and Foot Race.” Contests. Climaxing the affair, refreshments, consisting of hot dogs, ice cream and watermelon were served. Eighteen hospital auzillary volunteer members assisted with the party. They were Mesdames Josephine Woods, Stella Henderson Murla Bennet, Hazel Barnes, Dora Nicholson, Delcie Walton,. Caldonia Duncan, Bridgett Murphy, Christine Malone, Pearl Poe, Odesse Thompson, Bessie Wade, Bishop Long Ricks, Bertha Collins, Samella Mitchell, Willa Smith, Louvenia Floyd and M. E. Dennis. The next regular meeting for the State Hospital auxiliary will be held at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bobo, 1417 W. 14th st., 2 o’clock, August 7."
